When do you turn on the Holiday music?

I've always loved Christmas music, and I'm normally good about waiting until the ride home from Nana's on Thanks Giving to start listening to it.
This you however, I noticed that the cable music station for seasonal music has already started to play Christmas music, and well... the bug bit me! LOL
My question(and if this is better placed in another board such as let's talk, feel free) is when do the rest of you start to turn on holiday music?
Do you even listen at all? Am I a little crazy for already listening to it?
It'll be fun to see what others think.
Until next time

Katie

I personally think that end of November begining of December is good to start listening to Christmas music.
I like some christmas music and i look forward every hear to start listening to it but i feel as if i started listening earlier it wouldn't be as special. I like to wait for the right time to start listening to it.
Interesting topick.

Well, I'm truly a Christmas music adict. I think the earliest I ever bought an album was in mid-October. I pull them out once in awhile throughout the year, and start listening to them pretty seriously end of November. One of the things I love about my XM is that they usually have two or three christmas music channels, so I almost always get to hear something new. Last year, I started looking on-line at it to see what I didn't see in stores. I love the fact I can listen to samples of the music that way.

yep. it's great to start listening to it around this time of year. I find it amusing to listen to a song or two during summer. lol

I usually start listening to holiday music around the end of November, and I usually change my cell phone ringer to a Christmas song, around Thanksgiving.

I only listen to christmas music if I'm feeling extremely suicidal. I listen to paradies of christmas music all year if I think they're funny enough.

The only christmas song I can say I like is called Rairytale of New York by the pogues. it grabs me because it has lines like. "You scumbag yu magoote, you cheap loousy faggot." and that is just such an awesome sentiment in a christmas tune.

I agree that Christmas comedy stuf and parodies are fun all year round. My fiancee likes to bring down the Christmas music around November 1, because it can take two months to go through all the tapes and CDs she has, including a fe w mp3 CDs I've done for her. I really don't mind, and sometimes it can be better than the limitted menu you get on the radio come Thanksgiving week. We don't subscribe to XM or ahve any music channels on the cable, so it's tapes and CDs for us.

I don't own a lot of Christmas music of my own, but I usually start listening to it at the end of November or beginning of December. If I start much earlier than that, I get burned out on it, and by Christmas day, I think I'm going to scream if I hear another Christmas song. So, when I get tired of the Christmas music on the radio, I just turn to my other CD's and MP3's.

I never liked Christmas music a whole lot as a kid, though Mom always has. Then, I'd listen around December 15 through to Christmas. Now, I like to have it on December 1 straight thoough. I have never heard of a music service having a holiday station this early, Katie. However, when XM starts its Christmas channels, you can bet I'll be one of the first to tuen them in. Even if, gasp, it is November 30 instead of December 1!

I dont' listen to christmas music till probably thanksgiving and from then on after that.

I dont' know, I just think hearing it a little earlier is sooooo wrong, lol.

Although some of those chipmunk songs are amusing to listen to sometimes even in the middle of july, lol.

Most years I take out that stuff on december23, and put it away again the day after christmas day until next year. Hell I hardly if at all play it on my broadcast, and I agree it's overkill to start with it on november1.

I don't start listening to it.....Ever!

The beginning of October? No way! That's way too soon! I would get so sick of hearing holiday songs if I started hearing them in October, or even at the beginning of November.

I like watching the twilight zone marathon during this time of year. Rod Serling used to scare me when I was younger.

Some of the christmas music that I would hear in school made me sad and sleepy. I'm already hearing cars blasting the famous "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano (I think that's his name) and "Jingle Bells." They're played too much though.

Since we don't listen to the soft rock station (101.9 FM) as much as we used to, we just hear it when we're out somewhere else. *smile* Actually, that was mostly my mom's station, until we started listening to 94.1. But anyway, since we still listen to the 101.9 station sometimes, and if we feel like hearing some Christmas music at home or in the car, we turn it on sometime in the middle of December and listen to it off and on during that time until after Christmas Day.

I love Christmas music, but there is a time and place for it, and I've always had a very strict rule, never before Thanksgiving night. <G> But it seems like Christmas hits earlier and earlier every year. Many stores have their Christmas displays up already, and Halloween just barely passed. Pretty soon, we'll be hearing Rudolph around Labor Day.

I am not a huge fan of Christmas music these days.

But, like BlackBird, I love the parodies. I'd love to get a copy of Porky Pig singing (or stuttering his way through) Blue Christmas.

I like watchingn all the Christmas specials. And, like someone mentioned, christmas is definitely coming to people's minds sooner and sooner each year, it seems. At some of our local stores, they had Christmas stuff already out, in September!

Post 20 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 04-Nov-2006 16:22:48

Our little gift shop type place here at school starts there christmas stuff on november 1st because they would only have fifteen days to sell it all if they started later and i got bitten by the christmas bugyesterday when I went in there for raping paper and boes for my gifts for my mm and sister. So, almart and bought three christmas cds and downloaded a couple of tracks from sound click too I like to hear christmas stuff year round.

After thanksgiving. Our radio stations are starting to play it now and I think it's too early. And that blue christmas by porkey pig is cute and funny. Sorry I don't have a coppy or I'd send it to ya becky.

The week of Thanks Giving is fine with me, but full blown Holiday music in my computer would have to be the first week of December.

Post 23 by Godzilla-On-Toast (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 04-Nov-2006 22:44:54

As I said above, my fiancee is the one who brings down the Christmas music in her collection and starts playing it in early November. It's mainly just used as background music while she's doing things in the kitchen. As for me, I don't mind it, but I really prefer really unique arrangements of traditional songs or new original songs, and I do not listen to them on the radio because they tend to play a limitted menu of songs and artists and they tend to keep things fairly conservative and traditional, although a station or two played that rock version of "Carol of the Bells" by the Trans-siberian Orchestra which is kind of different. I got rather disgusted with my local soft rock station when they decided to play Kenny G or some sound-alike Saxophone player doing this depressingly slow and sad version of "White Christmas." Ugh, that was just awful! Really I prefer watching some of the animated specials I used to watch as a kid, even though I'm long past the Santa Claus thing. It's just a way for me to get all nostalgic and stuff, plus I just like old cartoons. LOL!

To the last post, if you dig around a bit, you can find some really good arrangements of traditional songs/carrols. There's always the Manheim Steamroller stuff. They'll re-package it every year, and call it "New" till we're all dead. I don't know how old you are, but one of the most surprising Christmas albums I have I bought about three years ago in mid-october. It was by the Moody Blues. There are a couple traditional songs on it, but the bulk of them are original. For those who like satires on Christmas music, check out some of the Twisted Christmas albums by Bob Rivers. He has a website at www.bobrivers.com. I found the site a little hard to navigate. You can purchase the stuff from Amazon.com also.

Yep, we ahve a couple of theirs via download on mp3 CD. I think hte ones I want are the CD of the recordings of Christmas carols played on the antique music boxes, plus I'm looking for a big band arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite. Oh, one of my favorite Christmas novelty songs is on now. "Chickens are in the Chimes." It's an oldie but a goodie. I don't think you can find it on any CD, though.

Hi. I usually turn on the holiday music right after Thanksgiving or on Thanksgiving day.
